• Class Builder iPhone App for Indoor Cycling Instructors

Attachment 2547There's a lot of buzz about the new Class Builder iPhone App from Cycling Fusion so I felt it made sense to include here in the music tools and resources section. It's very cool and makes creating a structured class / ride profile easy using just your Apple device. You can find Class Builder at the iTunes store here. There you will find links to the comprehensive video tutorials Gene Nacey has created that will walk your through exactly how to use the App to build the perfect class profile.
    Attachment 2548
The App will display the actual class profile you have created and can be projected on a screen for the class to follow.

It's kinda pricey. Are there any other apps out there?

For the capabilities that it has, I think it's very reasonably priced. No one has done anything that remotely approaches this. And even if someone does come out with something cheaper, it's hard to imagine it would contain the abilities or have the extensive R&D that this one did. Gene Nacey is a mover and shaker of this indoor cycling industry.

I have been using Class Builder on an iTouch for a couple of weeks. It is easy to use and my riders like the information that it projects on the wall. Even on the small screen of the iTouch (as opposed to an iPad) it is easy for me to see the display without my reading glasses because of the lighted screen of the iTouch. I had a hard time seeing a paper printout in the darkend room without my reading glasses.

If you are not sure about purchasing Class Builder check out the online tutorials. They are available on Cycling Fusion and on You Tube. There are a bunch of them and they will walk you through the whole process of creating a ride, cues, projecting and even printing.

Just downloaded the app to my iphone and built a few profiles to test.

Love the graphics but I appear to have the incorrect cadence levels and RPE when I run the class.
On the detailed profile under edit class it is correct but not when I start. Any ideas?

While this seems like a great app, monitoring the music run time and digifit on the same phone. Running multiple apps is a problem.

Trying it today for the first time. Hope there are no glitches. We have a screen so I like how the members can see the profile.

So I used this today for the first time on my ipad. I quickly put together a class that focused on strong flat, then climb, then a series of "switchbacks" (out of saddle accelerations) recover and repeat. Loved how I could see very clearly in front of me the count down to the next segment and I think it kept me more together as an instructor. I know there will be a learning curve before I get this to be second nature for not only me but the members but in another class or two they will understand the profile on the screen better. I did get great feedback though. They like that they could see what they had in front of them and where they were at. My only glitch, the cable into the ipod was not 100% and the whols shebang stop at about the half way point. Figured that out after class so next time shouldn't be an issue. One member asked if they could see the same "song time" as I saw on the ipad. That doesn't show on the screen. So if Gene reads this, is there a way to play with what shows on the screen or is it set to just profile, intensity, cadence ?

Sorry if this is a dumb question.... Do you have to have all your music in iCloud in order to use the app? My initial guess was YES, so I did the 1 year subscription I purchased the app on the weekend, don't have a screen to shoot it to, however, it will get rid of my pieces of paper. Looking forward to seeing how this will work for me - well, I hope.

I just synced my Ipad to my desktop that has all my music in it and because I didn't want to use alot of space on my Ipad ( I have tons of music) I dragged and dropped the songs for my playlist into my Ipad

I have been using this app for a while and like it. However, I wish there was someplace for me to add some notes. When I look back on some older rides the title and cues don't give enough of a description so I really remember the ride. Is it there and I am missing it? I tried to go on the cycling fusion website but I think to leave a comment you need to be on Facebook. I could keep a paper copy backup with hand written notes but that is what I am trying to get away from.

      Thanks!

Yes that would be helpful. Also if the RPE could have 1/2's because I find they sometimes don't match up with a zone well. Maybe its me.
